Welcome

The Other Parent was founded on the belief that children need both parents. We believe, in the absence of abuse or neglect, both parents have an equal right to legal and physical joint custody of their child. We also believe that both men and women should be held to the same financial obligation for care of their child. We have dedicated ourselves to serving the best interests of all children by advocating equality and accountability in the family court system.

We work toward this goal by providing information, referrals and support services to non-custodial parents. The Other Parent recognizes and works against bias in the system, but supports all parents who put their child first and want to protect their rights and relationship with their child, regardless of gender.

The WA State Child Support Work Group is meeting monthly to determine what one parent should pay another to raise their child. Chances are good the rates will be tremendously inflated, putting hundreds of thousands of loving NCP's into the poor house. Visit our tab on the group to learn more about their history and, better yet, GO TO THEIR MEETINGS and tell them how this impacts your life with your children. The Other Parent is there every meeting representing NCPs but we need your support. Find out when and where the meet by visiting the DCS website. WE NEED YOUR HELP.

SUPREME COURT DISSOLUTION TASK FORCE

The Other Parent is fortunate to have had one of its representatives, Kevin Turner, picked by the governor to serve on the Washington State Dissolution Task Force. This is a key component of the state law passed in the 2007 legislative session to improve the dissolution statute. All of the task force work is based on 2SSB 5470, Laws of 2007, Chapter 496, §306.

Kevin’s contributions will be centered on the domestic violence and sexual assault training for evaluators and dispute resolution subcommittees. Kevin was elected to be the chair of the training subcommittee. We believe there is a great opportunity to drive honest and open policies that balance the needs of all parties which is Kevin’s primary objective. If you have any particular concerns please contact Kevin at your earliest convenience. Kevin can be reached at: oldfrog@comcast.net. For more information on our activities within this task force please see our Dissolution Task Force page.

NOTE: THESE MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND YOUR ATTENDANCE WILL HELP SHAPE WHAT COMES OUT OF THIS BILL.
